The Fiji men’s Basketball team defeated Nauru 126‑52 in their first match in the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.
Fiji Captain Leonard Whippy says it was a good start for the players since they have been utilizing all their resources in the past weeks in trying to get the players to know each other well.
Whippy says they played as a team.
He adds they will need to work more on their defense.
They will meet New Caledonia in their second pool match at 2pm today.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Under 23 soccer team came back to draw 1‑all with Vanuatu in its first pool match of the Pacific Games.
Fiji was trailing 1‑0 at halftime.
Suva soccer midfielder Nickel Chand who came in as a substitute player scored Fiji’s equalizer midway in the second half.
Fiji’s next pool match will be against the Federated States of Micronesia at 12pm tomorrow.
In Table Tennis, Fiji Mens team beat Palau 9-nil while Fiji Womens team lost their first game 8-1 to Tahiti.
