The Fiji Under 18 men’s team started their Commonwealth Youth Games with a win over the Bahamas by 59‑0 before they beat Sri Lanka 14‑7.
However the Under 18 team lost to Canada 21‑19 in what was a bruising encounter.
Meanwhile, the women’s team started with a 29‑0 win over Trinidad and Tobago but lost their second game against Canada 40‑7.
The women’s team will continue their competition against Australia later today.
