The Vodafone Fiji Bati today received their Rugby League World Cup bonus cheque of $50,000 after reaching the semifinals for the third time and also their stellar performance in defeating New Zealand in the quarters.
The cheque has been given by Vodafone Fiji Limited and players and officials are expected to share the money.
Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Iliesa Delana presented the cheque to the players this morning and thanked them for flying Fiji’s flag to the world.
19 players and three officials came back to Fiji for this event as they spent yesterday meeting and celebrating with the local fans on their way from the West to Suva.
Fiji National Rugby League Chairman Filimoni Vosarogo says the players played their guts out and put their bodies on the line for God and country.
Vosarogo adds that the Bati has shown the tier 1 nations that we are going to compete more at their level from 2018 onwards to the next World Cup in 2021.
Meanwhile, Australia will take on England at 10 tonight in the Rugby League World Cup final.
