Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou today handed bonus cheques to the Fiji Athletes who won medals at the Commonwealth Games.

Weightlifter and Gold medalist Eileen Cikamatana received $10,000 while bronze medalists weightlifter Apolonia Vaivai and boxer Winston Hill received $5,000 each.

Cikamatana's mother Maria Makitalena Cikamatana who received the cheque on her daughter's behalf says it is a proud moment for them and their family members.

Makitalena adds that her daughter had already promised them before the games that she would win gold.

She adds that despite their financial struggles, they still worked hard to support their daughter to become a Commonwealth Champion.

Meanwhile the Fiji 7s players had earlier received $7,500 each for winning silver.
