The Fiji National Rugby League is hoping that the government will be able to commit some funding for the hosting of two rugby league world cup matches in Fiji in 2017.
CEO, Timoci Naleba says if the Government can commit more than $2 million to host the Chiefs and Crusaders match next year then they would be happy to support the RLWC which might also open doors for other sports as well.
Naleba says they have received a letter from the 2017 Rugby League World Cup organizers expressing their interest to consider Fiji as one of the co‑hosts for the 2017 event.
He adds that they have written to them and they have agreed for Fiji to host two world cup matches.
Hosting rights for the next World Cup, which takes place from October to December in 2017, were jointly won by Australia and New Zealand, but already Papua New Guinea have been given three games to play in their country.
Fiji reached the semifinals of the last World Cup in England, but were smashed 64‑0 by Australia at Wembley Stadium.
There are likely to be 28 games at the 2017 World Rugby League Cup.
