England's netballers stunned overwhelming favourites the Australia Diamonds, on a dramatic final day at the Commonwealth Games.
The Roses, having reached their first major final, claimed gold with a 52‑51 victory against the hosts the Diamonds who settled for silver.
The Silver Ferns left the Commonwealth Games without a medal after finishing fourth losing to Jamaica in the Bronze medal match 60‑55.
Meanwhile, The Fijiana 7s team has finished in the fifth place of the Commonwealth Games 7s after defeating Kenya 40‑5 in the fifth‑place final.
The Iliesa Tanivula coached side dominated every area of the game as they crossed over with five tries from Miriama Naiobasali and Timaima Ravisa scored two tries each while the other tries were scored by Rusila Nagasau and Viniana Riwai.
The New Zealand Women’s 7s team also won the Women’s Gold Medal after defeating Australia 17‑12 in the final.
Australia finished top of the Commonwealth Games medal tally with 80 gold, 59 silver and 59 bronze, second is England and in third place is India.
Prince Edward declared the Games over at a spectacular closing ceremony that featured an appearance by eight‑time Olympic champion Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
The flag of the Commonwealth Games Federation was lowered and presented to Birmingham, hosts in 2022.
