The race in the Blue Ribbon event of the Coca Cola Games is still wide open with Nasinu Secondary School sprinter Apisai Dokonibonu also aiming for the gold medal.
Dokonibonu will be dedicating his run to his late uncle who passed away last Wednesday.
He had raised him and his siblings when his father passed away in 2000.
The 19-year-old is expected to be a threat to top favorite Aaron Powell of Gospel High School.
He hails from Naqia village in Wainibuka clocking 11 seconds in the Suva Zone 1.
Powell has the fastest time of 10.87 seconds from the Suva Zone 2.
The senior boys 100 metres record is 10.43 seconds which was set by Banuve Tabakaucoro in 2011.
Dokonibonu said he will give his best shot on Friday.
Dokonibonu is also the fullback of the Nasinu Secondary School Rugby League Under 19 team that lost to Ba Provincial Freebird Institute in the Vodafone Cup final last weekend.
He will be anchoring their senior boys 4x100 metres relay team.
The Coca Cola Games will be held on Friday and Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
