The Fiji National Sports Commission is urging various sporting bodies not to rely heavily on government funding and make use of the new tax incentive introduce by the government to look for other sponsors.
Sports Commission Chairman Peter Mazey said sporting bodies are expected to receive more sponsors as the government has announced a 150 percent tax rebate if they give over 50,000 dollars to any sport.
Mazey confirms that they have received many applications for funding and a selection process will be followed before the grant is given to various sporting organization.
The National Sports Commission have been allocated an operating grant of $800,000.
Apart from this, the government has provided $2m to assist our national teams for their overseas tours and $400,000 for the hosting of international tournaments in Fiji.
Various sporting bodies can also secure services of top international coaches as $2m have been allocated to engage overseas coaches in providing international expertise for sports development.
$1.6m dollars have been provided for the construction of rural sports complex in Gau and Kadavu with work expected to start early next year.
