Dillon Hunt scored a match‑winning try with six minutes left as the Highlanders once again fought back to record a 36‑31 victory in their Super Rugby game against the Reds last night.
It was a break from Matt Faddes that set up Hunt for his try.
The Highlanders also got two tries from Shannon Frizell while Rob Thompson and Ben Smith also crossed.
The home side looked to have taken control just before halftime but made a string of errors that prevented them from putting the game out of reach.
Winger Chris Fea-u-ai‑Sautia, halfback Moses Sorovi, lock Izack Rodda and debutant prop Feao Fotu-aika scored for the young Reds team, who showed improvement under second‑year coach Brad Thorn.
The match was played at a high tempo with Reds' captain Samu Kerevi and centre partner Jordan Petaia effective at breaking the Highlanders' line.
The Reds have not won a match in NZ since 2013.
Meanwhile, the Sunwolves will play the Waratahs at 4.15pm today, the Crusaders will play the Hurricanes at 6.35pm today while the Brumbies will take on the Chiefs at 8.45pm today.
The Blues will meet the Sharks at 1.05am Sunday.
