The defending champions of the Super Rugby Competition, the Crusaders are returning to Fiji.
This announcement has been made by the Fiji Sports Council CEO and 2019 Super Rugby Steering Committee Chair, Litiana Loabuka who says that the Crusaders will be coming to play the Chiefs on Saturday 1st June next year at the ANZ Stadium.
This also comes after the Gallagher Chiefs announced their 2019 Super Rugby Round 16 home match against the Crusaders.
Loabuka says that this will definitely be a big event as both teams will be playing each other in Fiji for the third time.
With the sides having a win each, they have played to sell-out crowds in both previous matches which was the 23-13 win to the Chiefs in 2016 and a 32-24 win to the Crusaders last year.
The Gallagher Chiefs Chief Executive Mike Collins says that it exciting to again take a Super Rugby game to the Pacific Islands and is also an opportunity for the rugby-loving public in Fiji to once watch some of the best players in the world in action.
Collins says that they have already played in Suva in the past three years so they have a close connection with Fiji and it feels like a home away from home and a real part of their Chiefs territory.
The Chiefs’ 2019 home schedule opens with a match against the Highlanders at FMG Stadium in Waikato on the 15th of February 2019.
