Chiefs head coach Dave Rennie isn't reflecting on recent history in preparing his Chiefs for the Highlanders.
The two New Zealand sides kick off their Super Rugby seasons against one another on Friday night in Dunedin, in a fixture the Highlanders have won six times on the trot.
All Blacks flanker Sam Cane could feature at Forsyth Barr Stadium as he recovers from an ankle injury suffered playing against Ireland last November, which would be a major boost for the Chiefs who've already lost Brad Weber and Mitchell Graham to season ending injuries.
The Chiefs haven't beaten the Highlanders in almost three years, with their last victory a 21‑19 success in Hamilton back in March of 2014.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders will take on the Chiefs at 6.35pm Friday, while the Rebels host the Blues in the first match at 8.45pm Thursday.
