Dan Carter has returned to New Zealand on a pre‑planned holiday as he awaits legal proceedings for a drink driving offence committed in central Paris last week.
The All Blacks great revealed online on Friday that he had returned to New Zealand, as he again commented on the "mistake" he had made on Wednesday night when he was caught by police drink driving.
Carter was also reported to have been driving without his licence.
He was not detained or arrested when police stopped him.
The three‑time World Player of the Year first admitted to the mistake on Thursday.
The maximum penalty in France for a drink driving offence of this scale is a two‑year prison sentence and a fine of $6,900 as well as six penalty points against the driver's licence.
