Dan Carter has admitted to making a massive error, apologising for alleged drunk driving in central Paris.
Carter wrote on his official facebook page there were no excuses and he made a massive error of judgment and let down his club, fans and most importantly family.
He wrote that he let the police and court process run its course and face the consequences.
Carter said he was glad no one was harmed.
The All Blacks great was stopped in the French capital on Wednesday, according to magazine Closer.
They reported he had forgotten his driver's licence and his blood alcohol level was positive and measured at 0.98 grams of alcohol per litre of blood, nearly twice the limit of 0.5 grams.
The Racing 92 star had to leave his car, but was not placed in custody.
Closer reported he would face a court appearance.
