The Brisbane Global 10s will be a great pathway for most of the new players in the Super Rugby teams to prove themselves before the season starts next month.
Top teams such as the Hurricanes and Crusaders have confirmed their squads, with wingers Julian Savea and George Bridge to lead the charge for the Kiwi heavyweights.
Drawn in Pool C, the Crusaders begin their campaign with a showdown against Savea’s Hurricanes at 7.38 tonight, followed by a match against Henry Speight’s Brumbies at 11.30 tonight.
They then will meet the Fiji Giants in their final match of pool play tomorrow afternoon.
The Hurricanes squad boasts former New Zealand sevens star Ben Lam and try scoring prop Alex Fidow.
According to Foz Sports, other big names include Berrick Barnes and Digby Ioane for the Wild Knights, Samu Kerevi and Taniela Tupou for the Reds, Henry Speight and Andrew Walker for the Brumbies, Liam Messam and Charlie Ngatai at the Chiefs, Elliot Dixon and Luke Whitelock for the Highlanders and George Moala and Akira Ioane for the Blues.
Other wildcards are Drew Mitchell for the Waratahs, Carlos Spencer for Blues, Pita Alatini for the Highlanders and Adam Freier for the Rebels.
The tournament will start at 4.15pm today with the Wild Knights taking on the Rebels, the Blues will face the Reds at 4.44pm, Pau vs Waratahs at 5.13pm, the Chiefs against the Highlanders at 5.42pm while the Fiji Giants will take on the Brumbies at 7.09 tonight.
