The Springbok Sevens team will make no excuses about travel times, time zones or personal discomfort during their stay in Hamilton for the New Zealand Sevens tournament.
Blitzbok playmaker Stedman Gans reiterated this as the squad continued with their preparation for the third tournament of the World Rugby Sevens Series, at FMH Stadium Waikato this weekend.
Gans says that a year or two years ago they decided to name this leg of the World Series the ‘No Excuses Tour.
South African Coach Neil Powell says that they can complain about the difference between the time zones or they can embrace the challenge and get the job done.
Powell adds that the first time they followed this approach they won the Wellington 7s in 2017.
Gans says that he is happy to be back and playing for his country and he is focusing to doing what the team needs.
21‑year‑old Stedman Gans was out of the first two tournaments because he was recovering from a hand injury which he suffered during a training session at the Paris 7s tournament last year.
South Africa is pooled with Kenya, Scotland and France.
South Africa’s first match will be against Kenya at 11.22am.
The cup quarters will start at 10.36am this Sunday, the semifinals will kick off at 3.16pm and the final will start at 7.10pm this Sunday.
