The Wallabies stunned the world champion All Blacks 27-19 in Sydney to claim a first Rugby Championship title in the fourth year of the competition and a welcome boost ahead of the World Cup.
Halfback Nic White came off the bench to score a penalty and a converted try to give the Wallabies their first win over the All Blacks since they won the final Tri-Nations in 2011.
Prop Sekope Kepu and wing Adam Ashley-Cooper also crossed for the Australians, who will win back the Bledisloe Cup for the first time since 2002 if they can beat New Zealand in Auckland next week.
Wallabies Captain Steven Moore said it was teamwork that got them the win.
All Blacks wing Nehe Milner-Skudder scored two tries on debut and first-five Dan Carter kicked three penalties.
All Blacks captain Richie McCaw suffered only his 15th defeat in the black jersey as he made his 141st appearance for his country, matching Irishman Brian O’Driscoll’s record tally.
McCaw said they expected an intense match from the Wallabies.
Meanwhile, Argentina recorded their first ever win over South Africa in a 37-25 Rugby Championship victory in Durban.
The result means that the Springboks have now lost four consecutive Tests to different countries for the first time since 1965.
Argentina led 27-13 at the break after three excellent tries.
The Wallabies will meet the All Blacks at 7.35pm next Saturday.
