Andy Ruiz is close to finalizing a deal to become Anthony Joshua's opponent on June 1.
The clock is ticking towards Joshua's US debut at Madison Square Garden, but Ruiz is highly likely to get the nod to replace Jarrell Miller in the wake of the American's failed drugs tests.
Ruiz was not on the original five‑man shortlist, but with early preferences Luis Ortiz and Adam Kown-acki failing to reach terms, the search has been frustrating for the Joshua camp.
Ruiz has a 32-1 record.
