Mexico’s Andy Ruiz Jr wants a rematch.
The Mexican heavyweight surprised many with his durability, speed and relentless aggression against Joseph Parker last night as they battled for the WBO Heavyweight title.
Two of the three officials scored in Parker's favour 115‑113 while the other had it a 114 draw ‑ to hand Ruiz a majority decision defeat, the first loss of his 30‑fight career.
Ruiz was regularly successful in closing the distance and stalking Parker in which he landed in bunches and frequently tagging Parker to the body and head.
Ruiz Jr says that he was always on the pace, always controlling the rounds with the jab and he thinks he won the fight.
He adds that Parker did not throw a lot of combinations and only he showed he was the faster guy on the ring.
However he says that since he was in Parkers hometown, the judges might have been in his favour.
Meanwhile, no rematch clause was included in the contract, though, and the Parker camp is likely to have minimal interest in giving Ruiz another shot as they plan to take up the deal boxing promoter guru Bob Arum had agreed to.
