All eyes are on London this coming weekend for the finale of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, but over the past few tournaments there has been a bigger picture forming with qualification for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 now well underway.
The tournament, set to take place in San Francisco on 20‑22 July next year, will feature both men's and women's teams and will be the seventh edition of the tournament, which was last held in Russia back in 2013 and won by New Zealand.
Meanwhile Vodafone Fiji 7s forward Mesulame Kunavula has been ruled out of the London 7s with a knee injury.
Coach Gareth Baber says Kunavula has been ruled out for six weeks and will be replaced by Josua Kurinabuli.
In the London 7s this weekend, Fiji plays Canada at 8.30pm tomorrow, we play Japan at 11.36pm tomorrow while Fiji takes on NZ at 3.04am Sunday.
The medal quarter finals start at 9.58pm Sunday, the semis will be played at 1.48am Monday while the medal final will kick off at 4.57am Monday.
