Nine players tested positive for drug use in the recent Courts IDC at the ANZ Stadium.
The test was for marijuana.
Four players are from Premier teams while five are from Senior teams.
Fiji Football Association’s CEO Mohammed Yusuf says there are two re-offenders and they will not be able to play for the next two years.
He says they are disappointed as the number of players using drugs has increased compared to last year.
Yusuf says they will now look at changing the rules and will bring harsher penalties where if a player is found positive for drugs, then the player may go for a year ban or get a $5,000 fine.
We also asked Yusuf whether they will be doing drug tests before the players get registered for the tournament as it has been discovered that a prominent player took drugs and scored a crucial goal for his team in the group match of the IDC.
Meanwhile six players who were found positive for drug use last year and earlier this year are already on a lengthy suspension.
