Four of the five soccer players that had tested positive for marijuana use during the Vodafone Fiji FACT have been cleared to play in the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants this weekend.
Fiji FA CEO Mohammad Yusuf says the four players were first time offenders and their second test came back negative.
The other player was a repeat offender and he has been suspended indefinitely.
Yusuf says they started the drug tests last year and now that they have gone past one year, the Board of Control is looking at some new laws that will include suspension of up to six months for first time offenders.
Yusuf also commended districts that are now taking a proactive approach and doing drug tests on their own.
According to ESPN, there had been no positive results from over 3,000 anti‑doping tests carried out before and during the FIFA World Cup.
FIFA collected 2,761 samples prior to the tournament and another 626 during it, including 108 collected on non‑match-days, as part of the largest‑ever World Cup testing programme.
