2 records have been broken so far on Day 1 of the Lautoka Athletics Zone competition.
Natabua High School’s Collin Vassie broke the intermediate boys 1500 metres zone record with a manual time of 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
The previous record which was set by Immanuel Woodly of Natabua was set in 2014 with a time of 4 minutes and 33 seconds.
Vassie took the gold medal in this event.
Meanwhile Emily Tamani of Jasper Williams High School broke the senior girls long jump record with a jump of 6.22 metres.
The previous record was 5.15 metres.
Meanwhile, Pawan Chand of Lautoka Andra Sangam College is the favourite to win the sub-junior boys 400 metres event.
Chand clocked a manual time of 56 seconds.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Chand says that he wakes up at 5 every morning to train.
Natabua High School is leading in the boys division with 6 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze while Lautoka Muslim College is in second place with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Ba Provincial Secondary School and Tilak High School are both in third place with 1 gold each.
Jasper is leading in the girls division with 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze.
Magodro Junior Secondary School is in second place with 1 gold.
The Lautoka Athletics Zone which is currently underway at Churchill Park, will end tomorrow.
