14 weightlifters are vying for a place in the Fiji Team that will participate in the 2019 International Weightlifting Federation Junior Weightlifting Championships which will be held in Suva in June.
Weightlifting Fiji says that they are looking at fielding a final team of 7 to 10 athletes to represent Fiji.
The 14 weightlifters have been selected from the initial trials that were held from last December to this month.
The final team will be named after the remaining trials next month.
Meanwhile, Merewalesi Vusonitokalau who hails from Joma, Kadavu was identified during the Fiji National Sports Commission’s Outreach Program in Kadavu last year.
She has relocated to Suva and attends Suva Grammar School to continue training.
Another recent find is Adi Wini Mekula of Wainimala, Naitisiri and is currently a student at Adi Cakobau School.
The International Weightlifting Federation Junior Weightlifting Championships will be held at the FMF Gymnasium from the 1st to 8th of June.
