After operating for more than 36 years, Maqere Exports Company Limited in Tavua is now looking forward to opening a new processing facility tomorrow.
Maqere Exports Events Manager Maria Ronna Sekiguchi said the company currently exports a wide range of agriculture and horticulture produce to New Zealand.
Sekiguchi said these include root crops, seafood, kava and coconuts and it sources majority of its commodities from the Ra-Lautoka corridor.
Sekiguchi said the company buys vegetables from the farmers between Sigatoka and Rakiraki, and assists many small holder farmers around the Western Division.
She said the Market Development Facility has partnered with Maqere to help them utilize their expanded processing facility and improve sourcing of local produce from farmers.
She added with this new processing facility, the company will be able to meet the increasing demand from the overseas market.
She also said Maqere has projected that all activities being undertaken by the exporting company will now benefit approximately 155 farmers.
