The Fiji Sugar Corporation will acquire over a hundred new trucks which will be primarily transporting cane to the sugar mills

The Fiji Sugar Corporation will acquire over a hundred new trucks which will be primarily transporting cane to the sugar mills.

FSC’s CEO Graham Clark says these new trucks will be distributed across all cane sectors and will be managed by their transport department via fleet management solution at cost‑effective prices.

It has not been revealed as yet as to how much the growers will be paying the FSC for the transportation of their cane.

Clark says the first 17 trucks are expected to be distributed by the end of this month and a further 20 trucks around mid‑June with the balance expected around mid‑July.

He says Lautoka Mill areas are expected to receive thirty trucks,Labasa twenty‑two and Rarawai fifteen trucks.

The trucks have been fitted with cage bins, fabricated locally, specifically for the harvesting season and during the non‑crushing season, the trucks will be used for the distribution of fertilizers and weedicides.

Clark says these trucks will be compliant with the new Land Transport Authority and Fiji Roads Authority weight restrictions.

He says the new trucks will bring much relief to the growers during the peak crushing season, when the demands of the transportation of their cane to the mill is at its highest.
