Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Jiko Luveni said communities that have been declared Zero Tolerance Violence Free will have increasing number of crime reports.
Luveni said this is because people of these communities especially women are now more empowered and encouraged to report against crime.
Luveni added that the effectiveness of this campaign will be seen in five years’ time.
She said the Ministry has established a gatekeepers committee in these communities who will be monitoring activities on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, a total of eighty-seven communities have benefitted from this Violence Free Campaign to date while twenty-nine new communities have committed to this campaign and will undergo ten to twelve months of awareness programs.
