Laws are in place for the elimination of violence against women and children.
These are the words of Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni to the people of Nabukavesi, Navua, when launching its Zero Tolerance Violence Free Community Campaign.
Luveni said it is important to have an open communication about the treatment of women and children in the community because it has become a public issue.
She also said that parents are not to abuse their responsibility as a parent but to discipline their children in the right manner.
Nabukavesi Village will now undergo 10 to 12 months of Violence Free Campaign.
The Ministry has also established a Gatekeeper Committee in the Village led by the Turaga-ni-Koro.
Meanwhile, according to statistics provided by the Ministry, 29 communities have been declared violence free zones around the country while 30 communities have shown interest in undergoing months of awareness program.
