The Sugar Cane Growers Council will look into ways of generating interest among the youth to take up a career in the sugar cane field in the coming days.
Council CEO Sundresh Chetty says that they will have discussions with stakeholders such as Sugar Cane Growers Fund, South Pacific Fertilisers and Sugar Research Institute and will talk about how they can get the new generation into this business.
Chetty says they will also talk about how the new farmers will be assisted.
He stresses that all the necessary requirements and information will be provided and he also says that it is not necessary that the interested person should come from a farming family.
The CEO adds that if a person is unemployed and he wants to support his family, he will be fully assisted.
He also reveals that the land is available in abundance and they want to encourage youth to utilise this to earn and improve their standard of living.
