The World Bank has officially opened an office in Suva because there is a lot of work to be done and it has a lot more financial means at their disposal to do that work.
Speaking at the official opening at My FNPF Centre in Suva, World Bank Director to the Pacific Islands Michel Kerf says shareholders of the World Bank have decided to allocate more funds to small vulnerable states that includes Fiji and the Pacific.
Kerf says the World Bank offers grants and loans to organisations in Fiji and the Pacific to support investments that will help the economy grow and this would help uplift every citizen.
He adds that the World Bank also offers technical assistance on how to do things and conducts analysis reports for government partners at a request prior to any development.
Kerf also highlighted that the new World Bank Office in Suva will employ 19 staff.
Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says Fiji as well as other Pacific Island countries now have access to a vast array of global expertise as the world's largest development finance organisation is now based out of Suva and working with the private sector in emerging markets.
