Officials from the Ministry of Health will no longer have to wait to get back to their offices to complete their data entry when out in the field.
This has been made possible through the Centres for Disease Control ‘Epi Info Vector Surveillance App’ that has been specifically developed to help health officials around the world while out in the field gathering data to help combat mosquito born diseases.
A 2 day workshop held at the U.S Embassy which was attended by 20 health officials where Dr Rebecca Levine from the U.S Centres for Disease Control and Prevention trained them on how to use the App’.
Dr Levine says this App has been developed as a result of the Zika virus outbreak when they were asked by other countries affected by the virus for assistance.
Dr Levine says through the use of this App, data collected out in the field will now be available to decision makers as fast as possible to help them make appropriate decisions regarding public health.
She hopes that now that health officials have been trained on how to use the App, they will become regional experts and be able to help their colleagues in other islands.
