The 12 candidates who were selected to be the first group of Fijians to be part of the New Zealand Recognized Seasonal Employer Work Scheme left the Nadi International Airport this morning.
A three‑day pre‑departure training was conducted this week by the Foreign Employment Service of the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations to prepare the workers for employment in New Zealand.
The training was conducted in collaboration with Immigration New Zealand, Fiji's Ministry of Health, and the Fiji Police Force.
The 12 candidates were selected by Pick Hawkes Bay Incorporated a major fruit processing company located in Hawkes Bay.
They will be employed for a period of seven months and will return to Fiji on 20th September this year.
The next batch of workers is expected to depart next March.
