Work is underway on the three major areas which often get flooded in Labasa.
Minister for Waterways Dr Mahendra Reddy is visiting these areas in Labasa today.
Reddy says the three key flooding areas are Siberia, Soasoa flats and Batinikama which get flooded and this poses a problem to houses, labourers, businesspeople and students.
The Minister says flooding problems in Siberia have already been solved.
He says they are looking at flooding problems in Soasoa flats, Vunika and Batinikama.
Reddy says engineers are doing scoping works in Batinikama today to get quotations.
He says this will be a major project which will cost $150,000 which will be done in stages.
Reddy says the next project will be Soasoa where they may have to build a seawall and the project will be undertaken after works in Batinikama.
He says the works will include the establishment of new waterways and drainage systems and the establishment of flood gates.
