The Fiji Roads Authority is now working on the Samabula pedestrian traffic lights as Fijivillage has highlighted that these lights have not been working for some time.
The two pedestrian crossing lights from Calvary Temple to Fiji National University Samabula Campus and from FNU campus towards the Samabula Police Station have not been working for some time.
This is affecting hundreds of people everyday as this is a high traffic area all the time and the pedestrian traffic lights need to work to give a clear indication when the people can cross.
We raised the issue with FRA today.
Acting CEO for FRA, Robert Sen says that these issues are always immediately attended to and are labeled priority areas.
He added that these intersections are amongst the few others that are prioritized in the 2017-2018 financial year.
Sen says the crossing lights stop working at times which is related to electrical issues such as faulty cables and fluctuations in the power supply.
He says the FRA traffic team will continue to attend to urgent repairs until the lights are upgraded or replaced.
Sen also says that issues such as these should always be brought to FRA’s attention and concerned citizens are to contact them on 5720.
The 2017-2018 national budget has allocated $500,000 for the maintenance of traffic signals.
