Women living in the Ra province now have a better chance of securing their financial stability following the launch of the Ra Women's Craft Show.
While opening the event, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa says that Ra was one of the worst affected areas during TC Winston.
Vuniwaqa adds the fact that the women are able to rise up after the devastation of Winston and participate at the Craft Show is a clear sign of how strong and resilient they are.
She adds that the craft show is a good example of a successful program that has built capacities of rural women artisans and connected them to markets for their income generating.
Vuniwaqa says that the economic empowerment of women is a sustainable method of making Fijian women self‑reliant and economically independent.
She adds that these sort of craft shows will allow rural women to no longer depend on the traditional methods of supporting their families but are now venturing into more diverse methods of generating income.
120 women from the 5 Tikinas of Ra have created crafts to display and with the intention to sell and earn an income.
