A 40-year-old woman has been sentenced to two years and 10 months imprisonment after being found guilty of a count of obtaining financial advantage by deception by the Lautoka Magistrates Court.

The court was told that Aviyashni Naidu by deception dishonestly obtained $12,000 from a woman between 8th May and 15th May, 2013 in Lautoka.

The court was also told that Naidu was also convicted earlier this week on an “Escaping from Lawful Custody” charge and is awaiting sentence.

Naidu has a pending case of similar nature in the Nadi Magistrates Court as well as in the Ba Magistrates Court.

Naidu had told the court that she suffers from Bipolar disorder and Parkinson’s disease.

Shalveen Deo Sharma was the Police Prosecutor in this case.
