A 47-year-old woman charged with bribery of a public official has been remanded in custody as she has to present two suitable sureties today.
It is alleged that Meena Devi Prasad without lawful authority offered to provide $10,000 to a public official to make a passport of a Chinese national.
The alleged incident occurred between the 18th and the 22nd of this month in Suva.
Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara refused to accept her son and daughter-in-law as sureties as they both are unemployed.
She has been ordered to get two sureties today who are working.
Police prosecutor Constable Walter Taito has objected to bail on the grounds that it is a serious offence.
