Marianne Premila Devi who is charged with the murder of her defacto partner told the court this morning that she had thrown a bowl of kerosene on the man.
The incident happened in Sakoca.
Defence counsel Lisiate Qetaki asked Devi why she had thrown kerosene on her partner and she said that she wanted to show him, there wasn't enough kerosene to cook the food.
She further told the court that her partner was provoking her by saying 'burn me, burn me, what can you do' and was also swearing at her.
Devi told the court that on the 17th of November 2016 in Sacoka there was an argument between them because she had given $150 to her partner to fix the window of the taxi but instead he went and bought beer with that money.
Devi said after she threw the kerosene on the defacto partner, she went back to the kitchen and started wrapping lunch in newspaper.
She further said that her partner was swearing at her and it hurt her.
Devi told the court that she lit a piece of paper on fire and didn’t know that her partner was standing behind her.
She said the paper which was on fire touched the tip of his pants and he started burning.
Qetaki then asked her to explain what happened next.
Devi told the court that she tried to save her partner by filling a basin with water but when she turned around he was in the bathroom under the tap.
Devi said that she threw the basin of water on her partner to help him.
The case continues before High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo.
