The Office of the Leader of Opposition has today clarified that the SODELPA Caucus is of the belief that this is an opportune time for an Opposition member of the Public Accounts Committee to make the appropriate response to the 2017–2018 National Budget Address.
They also say that it must be noted that the Leader of NFP Professor Biman Prasad was nominated by the Leader of Opposition as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and his chairmanship ended through the amendments to the Parliamentary Standing Orders.
The Office of the Leader of Opposition say that prior consultation was held between Ro Teimumu Kepa and Biman Prasad and he was consulted and informed about the wishes of the SODELPA Caucus which was accepted.
The Office of the Leader of Opposition has also rejected the notion of the “removal” of Prasad as it is too harsh and does not represent the true intention of this change.
