"What was his fault?”
This is the question 58‑year‑old Ashraf Ali’s grandson Mohammed Iftikar Ali continuously asks himself as he awaits his grandfather's burial.
58‑year‑old Ashraf Ali alongside another man named Ashraf Ali and the Imam of Lautoka Jame Masjid Haji Hafiz Musa Patel were shot during the Christchurch terror attack.
Ali’s grandson Iftikar says whatever he is today is all because of his grandfather.
He says he lost his father at a young age and had only known his grandfather as a father.
Ali says his grandfather was involved in everything in his life and he does not know how he will be able to fill up the vacuum that has been left by his grandfather.
Meanwhile, Ali’s daughter in law, Razia Bi says she has no one that she could talk to as Ali would spend most of his time at home with his great grandkids.
She says it felt safe when he was around as her husband would be at work most of the time.
