The Nadi Weather Office has confirmed that the weather radars in the Nadi Weather Station and Nausori Airport are both out of order.
The weather radar in Nausori has a fault in terms of communicating data to the Nadi Weather Office while the Nadi Radar is undergoing upgrades as it has been in service for 20 years.
The weather radar detects the droplets of rain and precipitation and analyzes the data to determine the structure of storms and their potential to become severe systems.
Technicians are currently servicing the Nadi radar and this is expected to be completed by the end of July while the Nausori radar may take weeks to repair, depending on the nature of the fault.
The Nadi Weather Office states that although the two radars are non-functional, they have some tools to substitute them in collecting data such as local observation and satellite images.
