The Fiji Trades Union Congress stresses that they will continue to support the ATS workers picketing outside the ATS premises, and the union says that they will take things further by organizing a national strike to shut the country down.
FTUC National Secretary Felix Anthony has made this clear to the ATS workers and says their affiliated unions are now preparing for another march in Suva, and then a national strike.
Anthony stresses that the ATS workers will continue to stay outside as they will not sign the Return to Work letters to say that they were misguided and will not be sacked from their position.
Meanwhile ATS Chairman Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says its very alarming that the barrage of sanctimonious speeches by old school, table-thumping, dramatic B grade acting screaming unionists at the march on Saturday called for virtues such as honesty and upholding of the law, which is simply and exactly what ATS has been saying from the start - uphold the law and be honest about what happened.
He says unfortunately though the unions and politicians won’t let the innocent workers say they were misled because to do this would mean them losing the political traction they have manipulated out of this issue.
