After Tropical Cyclone Winston people are more resilient now but then again we still need a lot in terms of technology and communications for disaster preparedness.
Commissioner for Eastern Division Luke Moroivalu said this after the presentations made by Indian delegates in the India -Pacific Island Sustainable Development Conference yesterday.
Moroivalu says that India is very advanced in terms of disaster preparedness, response, rehabilitation and restoration and they have prepared themselves well .
He says it shows that they have used technology and have trained people and their experience in terms of disaster risk reduction is what we will gain from India.
Moroivalu says during the discussions the Fiji delegates have managed to look at the gaps and requested if they could assist us.
The session had presentations on Resilient Pacific Islands Countries and had speakers such as the Director General National Disaster Response Force- India, India Meteorological Department, Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure - Fiji, and representatives from Pacific Community, Pacific Islands Forum and U.N Office.
