Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum continues to stress the importance of ensuring that the foundation of our education system is strong.
While speaking on World Food Day celebrations at Rewa District School in Lomanikoro this morning, Sayed Khaiyum says that some reforms are still ongoing in the Education Ministry and this is what is called the settling period.
Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted that today a Headteacher or a Principal of a large school is getting a salary of $100,000.
The Acting Prime Minister says that who could have thought only a few years ago that a Principal in a large school would now be getting pay over $100,000.
Sayed-Khaiyum says that today teachers are appointed on merit and nearly every year for the past two years the government has been increasing the number of teachers to teach in schools around the country.
He also says that a specific amount of money has been set aside for a group of people to go around the country and do a stock-take on all schools where they will also find out what is required for each school.
Sayed-Khaiyum says that this way they can then direct money specifically to that area.
