We must protect and respect the dignity of our women and children as we do this, we will earn their trust and respect, therefore, it will replace the fear and distrust they have in us and our society.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa while handing over the Certificate of Commitment to the Tui Navadra Ratu Jope Tuitoga in Viani Village, Cakaudrove and to Iliesa Ratusake in Nakawakawa Village, Bua for the community's participation trainings leading to make them a Zero Tolerance on Violence Against Women and Children Community.
Vuniwaqa also commended the 'Vanua' and faith-based organisation for showing their support towards this programme.
The Minister for Women says that through this initiative, more emphasis is now given to developing families, as they are the foundation for developing our communities.
Speaking on behalf of Viani Women's Club, president Ruci Katonibana says that there are 61 women in their village and most of them are housewives.
Katonibana says that during the introduction of the violence-free programme, the women were recognised, they have developed their confidence to equally participate in village meetings regarding the Zero Tolerance on Violence Against Women and Children program and related day to day issues.
