Fiji Soccer Head Coach, Christophe Gamel says Fiji could have achieved a better medal in the Men’s Soccer Competition at the Pacific Games if some of the top soccer players would have not broken camp before the Games.
The Fiji soccer team has not won gold in the Pacific Games since 2003.
Gamel says he is satisfied with bronze but they can do better.
Top players like Kolinio Sivoki, Junior Narendra Rao and Ilimotama Jese were suspended before the Pacific Games after the Fiji FA found them guilty of breaking camp.
Gamel adds that the format for the Men’s Soccer Competition at the Pacific Games was wrong as the two Groups did not have equal number of teams which was unfair for some teams.
Gamel says Fiji was in Group B which had six teams while Group A had five teams.
He says Fiji and other teams in Group B had to play an extra match compared to teams in Group A which meant they had less time to recover.
We are trying to speak to the President of Pacific Games Council, Vidhya Lakhan.
