Residents of Nadi that are currently experiencing water disruptions will be facing the same problem for the next seven weeks.

This was confirmed to Fijivillage by the Water Authority of Fiji who says that the disruption to water production at the Nagado Treatment Plant, which was expected to finish earlier this month, was challenged with the introduction of high level algae flowing into Nagado from its source, the Vaturu Dam.

Water Authority says the cause of algae growth is the high nutrients present at the Vaturu Dam which is the right temperature for algae.

They say that they are currently conducting aeration, which is the process of pumping oxygen into the Vaturu Dam, to slow down the grow of algae.

The Water Authority says residents, business and schools receive about six hours of water supply daily together with the 23 trucks carting water to the affected areas.

They say ten 10,000 litres water tanks are also placed in strategic locations.

A total of 8,767 households, schools and businesses are affected by this water disruption in Nadi.

Some areas that are currently experiencing a low level of water supply are the general Votualevu area from Tadra road, ATS, Savunawai right up CAAF compound, the Holika areas, Nadele from Thompson Road upto Sleeping Giant, the Lolobalavu area and along Nadi Back Road.

Other areas affected include Nasau to Mulomulo village and Nagado areas such as Malolo, Navo, Tunalia, Nacovi, Sonaisali, Malamala, Nawaicoba, Yako, Nabila, Fiji Marriot Momi Bay Resort and Uciwai.
