Water Authority of Fiji is currently investigating two separate incidents where officials of the Authority allegedly provided false information to the people in the Northern Division.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum were informed by some residents of Labasa during their North visit that they were told by some Water Authority officials that they would not be provided with water tanks as the government had no money.

The Prime Minister was also informed that Water Authority officials told some people in Labasa that a bore hole pump in their area cannot be replaced as the government had no money.

Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Opetaia Ravai says they view the incidents very seriously and are taking strong appropriate actions.

Water Authority of Fiji has been allocated $11.6 million in the 2016-2017 national budget for rural water supply and a total of 2,000 water tanks will be distributed to the drought affected communities.

Water Authority has been provided with a total budget of $308.6 million for this financial year.
