Water Authority of Fiji have had issues of leaking valves, illegal connections and pipe placements that has resulted in low water pressure and intermittent supply in the Rewa Delta.
Water Authority of Fiji CEO Opetaia Ravai says that a survey by their team has revealed that a lot of the pipes are running through swampy and mangrove areas.
He says that Water Authority is now in the process of identifying new routes to follow the roads and improve water supply in the Rewa Delta.
Ravai says Water Authority has worked on replacing the leaking valves and has laid a new pipe across the Wainibokasi bridge that has clearly improved water pressure in the Naililili, Loma-ni-koro, Drekena, Tavuya and Mua-ni-Ra areas.
Water authority have this year so far successfully prosecuted 10 people for illegal connections.
Ravai says that if people are tapping into the Water Authority network, the Authority has a provision in their legal system to prosecute them.
Ravai says over 700,000 people are connected to the Water Authority Network, 98 percent of Urban areas are covered with pipe water and there are 2,000 rural schemes that have their own system and these will be connected to pipe systems progressively.
