The Water Authority of Fiji is dealing with the issue of rude truck drivers that are carting water to people.
Water Authority CEO Opetaia Ravai has stressed that the Authority has warned the drivers that their contracts could be cancelled if they continue to mistreat people.
Ravai has urged people to take down the registration of the truck and contact the Water Authority if a truck is not stopping to fill water or fail to come back after promising to do so.
Meanwhile the whole of the rural population is being affected by the dry weather condition in the Western and Northern divisions and the Water Authority has spent over $3 million to supply water to the various affected areas.
Ravai says that the situation is concerning especially in the North Western parts of Viti Levu around Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki.
He says water trucks are also being sent to areas in the Northern division especially Nagigi, Valebasoga, Vunivau, Tabia and Waiqele.
Ravai says that the dry spell in the Central division is not as bad, as these areas have had rain in the last few days.
He says that the Regional Manager in the West has confirmed that Sigatoka and Nadi have experienced rain in the last few days but there is still insufficient amount of rain in Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki.
Ravai says that every day of the week, there are areas that are being included to the list for water cartage as wells in the area have begun to dry up due to the current weather situation.
Ravai adds that at least 95 to 100 trucks are being used each day to cart water costing Water Authority $1.5 million a month.
He says that the number of trucks could increase if the dry conditions continue.
Nadi Weather Office Director Ravind Kumar has confirmed the Western division can expect rain in the next few weeks leading into the beginning of November.
Kumar adds that different parts of the Northern division have slowly started to experience rain in the last 2 weeks and rain will be forecast for the North in the next week or so.
