Former Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Finance Filimoni Waqabaca is the new Fiji High Commissioner to New Zealand.
After he was commissioned by the President Jioji Konrote at Borron House yesterday, Waqabaca says the appointment had brought a sense of excitement and nervousness but he will do his best.
He says some of the areas he will focus on will be the agricultural sector as New Zealand was a country where Fiji can learn from besides the dairy industry that Fiji was already tapping into.
Waqabaca also says some of his priorities are the extension of seasonal employment scheme, and encouraging New Zealand investment and connecting with the Fijian diaspora.
The former permanent secretary will present his credentials to New Zealand’s Governor General next week.
Waqabaca is expected to take up his new post at the end of December or early January 2016.
